Project Spotlight: Maritime Heritage Center Exhibit
Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary (SBNMS) encompasses over 800 square miles of federally protected waters at the mouth of Massachusetts Bay. As one of 13 national marine sanctuaries, SBNMS’s mission is to conserve, protect, and enhance the sanctuary while facilitating compatible use.
With only two months of production time, Creative Resources Group integrated design and produced multi-media elements to transform a bare room at the Maritime Heritage Center into a simulated research vessel. Steel walls and portholes looked out onto sanctuary species, while visitors interacted with touch screen kiosks, video theater presentations, a lighted 3D map, dioramas, and etched plates for art rubbings. Quickly after the exhibit’s opening, it became a major destination for the thousands of whale watch passengers and other tourists who visited Gloucester each year.
